Tory World is a songwriter/recording artist with a diverse musical sound pallet. He likes to refer to his music as "genre agnostic". His newest release is a retrospective album called, "Diaries of a Nihilist" and features music from 1994-2019. This collection is 50 diverse songs that range from Alt-Rock to Punk-Funk, the Blues, Hard Rock, Metal, and New Wave. There is also a "Singles Version" with 14 songs that will all have a visual component with the release. Tory has been making music since the mid 90's. He is also a studio engineer and has worked at studios in New Orleans, Seattle, and his native Madison, Wisconsin.
A multi-timbrel musician, most of Tory's music is recorded solo. However, he has collaborated with other artists and musicians such as Barbie Anaka, Devon Lowe, Matt Nauman, and Vanessa Anderson, who is also his little sister. "Diaries of a Nihilist" is a combination of 5 albums and a couple of old tape demos. Although a multi-timbrel musician, Tory's music ability really shines with his guitar work. The decision to release this retrospective album is somewhat spontaneous and comes out of his need to, "pay respect to the previous work I've done before moving on to new things".
Tory's music is heavily influenced by early-Alternative and 80's pop music. When listening to the music, you will hints of bands like New Order, Tears for Fears, Thompson Twins, and Level 42. He is also heavily influenced by "grown folk's music", which is what he essentially calls artists from the electro-funk movement of the late 70's/early 80's such as Rick James, Yarbrough and Peoples, One Way, and Slave. Also making a noticeable impact on his music are Prince, Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails), Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins), and Vernon Reid (Living Colour).
Although not actively gigging right now due to starting a family and launching his business, Tory does plan on returning to the stage at some point. As for now, he is going to "simply have fun" promoting "Diaries of a Nihilist". He is also considering returning to audio production and film scoring.
