With the release of BAU~MAN, the self titled debut album, King Bauman effectively blurs the line between what is and what could be. In early 2013, Joel Bauman was the talk of every national news station and online media outlet when he decided to forfeit his division-1 wrestling scholarship at the University Of Minnesota to pursue a career in music and business. The NCAA owned the rights to Bauman’s name and likeness, which meant he could not use his own name to sell his music while competing in college athletics. He had two options: continue wrestling and take down his music, change his name to an alias and return all profits amassed under his name “Joel Bauman” or give up his full ride, quit wrestling, dedicate his life to music and use the NCAA to tell his story. To Bauman it was a simple choice. He chose to tell the #GreaTeStoryEverTold. Immediately after leaving the University, Joel dedicated his life to learning, producing and creating music. Spending hundreds of hours in the studio, producing, audio engineering, and recording... he wanted to learn and master all he could to fulfill his dream of making music that inspired. 5 years later his debut, “BAU ~ MAN” is the definitive first step in fulfilling the promise that Bauman made when he chose freedom and art over the NCAA. The entire project - written, produced, and performed by Bauman showcases a wide variety of styles and influences that push the boundaries of what hiphop music can be. Each production is a testament to his songwriting and production skill, as the album winds it’s way through a variety of sounds and emotions to effectively tell the story of struggle, self doubt, perseverance and ultimately conquest.
