I'm a South African American singer songwriter who moved from SA to NYC to Nashville, marrying a Brit along the way and now raising three beautiful little boys. My parents are both incredible musicians, and I don't really remember not being able to play the piano. One day I overheard my (tipsy) grandmothers talking about me and my amazing little sister, Annie, who could sing like Patsy Cline and Whitney Houston practically since birth. They whispered "Sarah is the pianist, and Annie is the singer", and so I quietly decided to focus on piano. Good thing I did, because I got pretty good at it, playing with orchestras and working professionally for a theater/dance company through high school and college. The singing really came later when I needed a second instrument. I ended up getting a bachelors in piano and a masters in opera, and after a long career in teaching voice, songwriting, theater and choirs at two private schools in NY, I finally feel like I'm home in music city, and I'm loving every minute of every day here. Songwriting has forever been my way of expressing my heart, and getting through the best and worst days of my life. I don't know if I would have survived my teen and adult years without it, and I'm so thankful to my mom for making me put in the hours.
