French born – Australian raised multi-instrumentalist Flo Chase is ready to take the US by a storm with his full-length debut, Toi. After leaving his home, family, and friends to follow his dreams of making it in the music industry, Chase’s life calling has culminated in an ambitious 12-song offering, co-produced by Flo Chase himself. Currently based in Los Angeles, Chase has used the experience of moving halfway across the world and assimilating into a new culture to create some of his most emotionally driven work to date. Chase’s connection to music began at seven after learning to play piano. This passion became even more important after, at age 12, he moved to Australia from France without knowing a word of English. Music became his way to communicate with his new surroundings, providing the comfort and familiarity he had left behind. Chase’s ability to perform only grew from there, starting with vocal training and expanding into musical composition studies and self-taught skills on a variety of instruments including drums, banjo, harmonica, bass and ukulele. It came as no surprise that when the time for further education arose, Chase would pursue a degree in Music Performance at the JMC Academy in Sydney, Australia. It was there that he would cut his teeth playing shows in the local circuit and release his debut EP, Le Debut. After finding success with the EP’s lead single “Lonely River,” Chase set his sights on Los Angeles and a full-time move to the music industry. Recorded at Barking Owl Sound in Santa Monica, Toi features 12 emotionally driven tracks that reflect his experience of leaving everything behind to start fresh and embrace the unknown. “I’ve been working on Toi for the past two years or so, since leaving Australia and moving to Los Angeles in early 2018,” shares Chase. “This is now the third country I have moved to. The experience of traveling and feeling leaving family and friends behind has been a major source of inspiration for me as a songwriter. I won’t deny the fact that moving to a big city like Los Angeles has been challenging at times; yet music has once again become a major source of comfort and support and has, to some degree, brought up a sense of togetherness and made me feel closer to my loved ones.” The connection to home is apparent in the title track, with “Toi,” meaning “You” in French. The touching song marks the first time Chase has recorded in his native language and acts as a love letter to those he left behind. The previously released “Spinning Wheel,” showcases Chase’s ability to craft songs that are easy to sing-along to while also holding deeper meaning. The pleading “More of You” explores the need to rekindle a relationship with a lost love while “Never Came Back” encompasses a more upbeat look at a reckless relationship. To record Toi, Chase enlisted the help of good friend and co-producer Houston Fry as well as his older brother Theo, who played a large part assisting with production and offering creative feedback on each track. Toi was mixed by Kolton Lee (Kaleo, Foy Vance, Shania Twain, Niall Horan) and was mastered by GRAMMY Award winner Joe Laporta (Shawn Mendes, David Bowie, Foo Fighters, The Weeknd). In the short amount of time he has been living in the US, Chase has already secured performances with Ralph Lauren Romance New York and a Samsung Mobile TV Commercial. He has also launched a modeling career working with brands such as Hermes, H&M, Nike, and Adidas. Chase is now ready to showcase his first passion, music, and has much more on the horizon.
