Hailing from Detroit, a city known for its rich musical history, artist/producer Persia Grai’s aspirations have been evident since a child. He began writing while in the 4th grade and recording in the 7th. This love came after listening to the music of Santana and watching Aerosmith’s iconic Super Bowl performance. Upon further reflection, it seems as though music was Persia Grai’s calling by birth, sharing: “My mom said she knew I’d be a musician because I was relatively quiet when she was carrying me but I would start kicking frantically when she went to concerts. I never learned how to count bars or any music theory, I just knew it intuitively.” The seed that was planted eventually sprouted into a love of Hip Hop. Initially following the lead of his older brother who rapped, Persia began emulating other rappers, namely his influences such as Lil Wayne, Kanye West, T-Pain, and fellow Detroit native Eminem. As time progressed, he began to develop his own sound after realizing how rap can be helpful for self-expression and that's when his love for the art truly began to blossom. Musically, Persia Grai's sound is authentic, unique, and eclectic. This is probably influenced by his diverse ethnic background being Black, Puerto Rican, Sicilian and Irish. He expounds on this by sharing: "Moving around a lot & having a diverse family helped me relate to lots of different people from different backgrounds and that shows up in my music." Pulling inspiration from his entrepreneurial influences Nipsey Hussle & Russ, Persia Grai sought to launch his music career with a D-I-Y approach, much like the aforementioned artists. With very little assistance, he was able to put together his first project titled "Rise." Describing the process, he shares: "it was supposed to be a demo. I put a lot of work into I recorded it at home but I sent it out and got it mixed at big studios." The project was a success and he soon had employees at his local mall passing out copies on his behalf. This led to him opening for Big Sean at the annual Summer Jam concert in Detroit and the standout single "Ride On Me" receiving spins at the Hot 107.5 radio station in Detroit. Since then, Persia Grai's success has been steady and organic, with his music being played in retail stores across the country, being a part of a viral clip that was shared by pop superstar Taylor Swift, further growing his audience. And lately, his first full Spanish language song "No Me Amas" was added to rotation on MTV. These milestones and accomplishments are a testament to Persia Grai's talent and dedication to his craft. The sky is truly the limit for the rising star from the Motor City.
