Meishi Smile is an electronic art project based in Los Angeles, CA. The Japanese word “meishi” combined with the word “smile” is meant to convey a formality masquerading an emotion. Meishi Smile’s disparate influence and sound of ambient electronic pop has been described by NPR as “part shoegaze, part chillout, part noise, part power-electronics, yet so cohesive it feels like a single genre.” The project has released on labels such as Captured Tracks, Cascine, Maltine Records and Secret Songs.
