Bio Aged 19, Lisa has been gigging all around Glasgow and writing songs for 5 years, gradually building a following and a reputation as a gifted and hardworking song writer and performer with a number of early successes to her name. In 2016, Lisa obtained funding from the Paisley 2021 UK City of Culture Bid to record her first EP, Free Spirits. Released in April 2017, the EP received glowing reviews, worldwide radio play, appearances on STV and BBC Radio and a mention for Lisa in the Times amongst other Paisley cultural influencers such as Paolo Nutini and David Tennant. During 2017, Lisa’s EP tracks helped her win the Renfrewshire Live and Unsigned competition and receive a nomination for Female Artist of the Year by Radio Wigwam. She made it to the finals of the inaugural Salute Music UK competition and the Radio Clyde Jim Diamond Award. Lisa was also named “a woman of influence” by Paisley’s Provost. In May 2018, the song Free Spirits reached the London finals of the Song Academy Young Song Writer Award, judged by big music industry names such as Guy Chambers and Imelda May. 2018’s highlights included Celtic Connections, a Salute Music headline gig at King Tuts and showcases at Music for Youth in both Glasgow and Newcastle, Killin Music Festival and Dougie MacLean’s Perthshire Amber festival. It was the year Lisa began to spread her wings further afield, invited by the American Scottish Foundation to perform at New York Tartan Week, singing at the opening ceremony in Bryant Park and to parade crowds on 6th Avenue. She also spent a few weeks visiting London in the summer, performing in the Mayor of London Gigs10 Busking competition and making it to the Westfield finals. Lisa’s latest single was released in November 2018 and Celtic FM Presenter Ross MacFadyen gave it the following review: "Over the past couple of years, Lisa Kowalski's performance and writing skills have developed to a level that her new song, "I Do" would not be out of place on a LeAnn Rimes album. I really hope mainstream radio takes notice. It's been my pleasure to support Lisa via Folk and Roll Radio and Celtic Music Radio. Keep 'em coming!" A new EP will be recorded for 2019, demonstrating Lisa’s increased maturity and experience both as a song writer and a person.
