Australian singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Jamie-Lee Dimes’ began her performing arts career in the dance studios of Broadway, New York City in 2012. Building on the foundations of a music degree, classical ballet, and contemporary dance disciplines, Jamie-Lee started merging her two worlds; drawing inspiration from trailblazing artists such as PJ Harvey, Cat power, Kim Gordon and Nick cave. In July 2015, Dimes wrote and recorded the score to a short feature film project titled ‘Run Away’ at Melbourne’s Sing Sing recording studio. The remainder of the album was conceived in the great expanse of the Mojave Desert, California with her new material garnering an epic filmic quality. For her debut release, Jamie-Lee explores the idea of Liminality: A psychological state in which ones identity dissolves and normal limits to thought, self understanding, and behavior are undone. On return to Australia, Jamie-Lee worked with engineer and producer Callum Barter (Kurt Vile, Courtney Barnett, Dirty Three) at New Market studios partnering up with guitarist Daniel Hallpike (The Grand Rapids, Our Mountain) and Violinist Jeremy Lowen to record the mini-album ‘Liminality’ which was released at the close of 2016. The album has a dark, dramatic sound, that almost transports one to a different headspace entirely. Jamie-Lee now resides in Brooklyn, working on her next full length album and gearing up for a US tour later in the year.
