Dylan McKenzie is a performer, composer, and guitarist based in Los Angeles. His soft and earnest vocal style has sometimes been compared to Nick Drake, Beck, and Elliott Smith. As a songwriter, he crafts intimate pieces with an emotional atmosphere through tender melodies and confessional, poetic imagery. McKenzie contributes as songwriter, guitarist, and lead vocalist for the LA indie-rock band Derde Verde, whose latest recording, Meander Belt, was released in 2017 in the US and Europe via German label, Kursaal. McKenzie plays regularly in Los Angeles, and performances have included venues such as The Walt Disney Concert Hall, KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic, The Hammer Museum, and more. Additionally he has toured venues and festivals throughout the US and Europe with Derde Verde, as a guitarist in the band Spain (Josh Haden), and as an improviser in the Cabeza de Vaca Orchestra, a performance art project combining film, dance, and music. Aside from performance, McKenzie has worked as composer for film and sound installation. He is now completing a full length album with Derde Verde for release in 2019. McKenzie holds a BFA in Guitar Performance from California Institute of the Arts, where he studied with Miroslav Tadic and Stuart Fox.
