Boston Music Award R&B/Soul nominee bittymacbeth, isn’t your average millennial songwriter-producer. Her music is more than a meld of neo-soul harmonies and funk-informed bass with dusting with pop shimmer. bittymacbeth is a blues-woman for the new millennium, singing of the trials and successes and us-ness of everyday life. She speaks truth to power in every lyric, intention in every melody.
It’s this artistry with which she has struck a new distribution deal with US label Coed Recs. Prior to the deal, her music had already graced the airwaves of radio stations in Singapore and Australia and had been licensed for in-store radio play in the United Kingdom. While still an independent artist, her 2018 summer single Trace (Comfortable Sympathy) charted at #4 on Spotify Singapore's Viral 50. The latest release,"fly.", was featured on more than 12 different Spotify and Apple Music curators' playlists across Asia including Top Hits Singapore.
Known for her simultaneous live vocal and bass shedding, bittymacbeth, built her audience organically through touring. She's shared festival stages with the likes of Alice Ivy (AU), bp valenzuela (PH), NJWA (MY), The Sam Willows (SG) and co-headlined gigs and showcases in Singapore, Boston and New York.
bittymacbeth, whose real name is Beth Yap, was awarded scholarships from both Singapore’s National Arts Council and from Berklee College of Music towards my undergraduate studies in Contemporary Writing and Production with a minor in Video Game Scoring. She applies her songwriting-producer ability to compose lush layers of musical textures, which alone are simple memorable melodies that collectively sit together in the rhythmic pocket. Beth has worked across a spectrum of genres and multimedia: electronic pop or orchestral ensembles; big bands or R&B ballads; advertisements or action-adventure games. Her portfolio includes having arranged for the All In! Young Writers Festival concert, Berklee’s Singer’s Showcase and Contemporary Writing and Production annual concert, as well as having composed for clients such as Singapore stat board National Environmental Agency and The Event Company.
Whether it be her artiste discography or commissioned compositions, Beth turning intangible conjectures of the mind into something the body can sense, the mind can analyse and the soul can experience. She pursues the vision of every creation, whether as an artist for her audience or a designer for a client, relentlessly and fervently.
